Virginia Rocha is a political science PhD candidate at the Federal University of Pernambuco - UFPE (Recife, Brazil), with an MA and undergraduate also in political science by the same institution. In her thesis, she focuses on institutional and social incentives on the adoption and efficiency of municipal public transparency laws, using quantitative data from 2011 to 2017, under the supervision of Prof. Mariana Batista. In her master's research, she investigated how the relationship between politics and bureaucracy affects corruption. She took part in an MIT and Boston University-led project as a research assistant and in a local World Bank initiative as a monitor of educational indicators in Recife, Brazil. She is visiting the LAC during Hilary's term 2019 under the supervision of Prof. Timothy Power.
