Tristan Cadoret is a postgraduate student at St Antony’s College, University of Oxford. Born in the United States to Franco-Irish parents, he grew up in Madrid, Spain. He holds a BSc in History and Politics from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), where he developed a strong interest in Latin America, particularly in state repression during the Cold War. His undergraduate studies led him to focus on Operation Condor, with particular attention to Argentina and the unprecedented, continent-wide, and covert nature of this system of repression. His undergraduate dissertation examined the French legacy in Argentina’s Dirty War (1976–1983), analysing how counter-insurgency doctrines developed by the French military during colonial conflicts in Indochina and Algeria influenced Argentine military practices under the Videla dictatorship. The dissertation also explored the role of French governmental actions, especially intelligence cooperation, in enabling the junta’s systematic repression during the Dirty War and Operation Condor. At Oxford, Tristan aims to deepen his research on state repression, intelligence, and covert operations in Latin America, with a focus on identifying and analysing transnational networks linking local and foreign state and non-state actors.
