Otávio Zilioli Catelano is a PhD Student in Political Science at State University of Campinas (Unicamp) and a Brazilian Ministry of Education fellow (PrInt, CAPES). He is a Recognised Student at LAC for 2023 Hilary and Trinity Terms under the supervision of Professor Timothy J. Power.
Otávio is now researching how the new communication technologies are affecting representative democracies, studying the use of WhatsApp and how it may have changed the individual decision on voting for president in Brazil. He is under the supervision of Professor Rachel Meneguello (Unicamp). Besides communication technologies and voting behaviour, Otávio has also been researching other subjects such as elections, polarisation, political parties, party systems, local politics, and electoral geography.
He is a member of Brazilian Politics Study Group (PolBras), which is affiliated to the Center for Studies on Public Opinion (CESOP-Unicamp). Otávio has been a CESOP researcher during the 2018 and 2022 editions of the Observatory of Elections (INCT IDDC, CNPq) and is now an ANPOCS researcher for the project "The Future of Academic Work in Social Sciences".
