Miguel Emilio La Rota is the former Director for Policy and Strategy in the Colombian Prosecution Office (Fiscalia General de la Nación). Before this, he was a researcher at the Center for Law, Justice and Society (Dejustica) in Bogotá, where he coordinated the Judicial System thematic area. He co-wrote three books about access to justice and Criminal Justice in Colombia: Ante la justicia: necesidades jurídicas y acceso a la justicia en Colombia (Before Justice; Judicial Needs and Access to Justice in Colombia); 2014. Esfuerzos irracionales: Investigación penal del homicidio y otros delitos complejos (Irrational Efforts, Criminal Investigation of Homicide and other Complex Crimes); 2013. And Seguridad, policía y desigualdad (Security, Police and Inequality); 2013. He is also the author of several applied research and policy documents about criminal policy, public security, and access to justice in Colombia and Latin America. He is a lawyer and economist from the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, has a master´s degree in Public Policy from Columbia University in New York City and recently completed a master’s degree in Criminology in the Center for Criminology at Oxford University.
