Maria Júlia Schmitt Timmers is a PhD candidate in Political Science at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Brazil and a CAPES-PDSE scholarship holder. Her doctoral research examines the relationship between political culture and the process of financialisation in Brazil over the past two decades, with a particular focus on democratic institutions, ideological polarisation and the persistence of authoritarian legacies. More broadly, her work seeks to contribute to comparative debates on political economy and democracy in Latin America and other developing countries.
Maria Júlia holds a Master’s degree in Political Science, with previous research on the political and social implications of cryptocurrency adoption across countries. Her academic interests include political economy, democratic theory, political culture, and Latin American studies.
