Jeferson Scabio is a recognized student at the Latin American Centre and a PhD candidate in Anthropology at the Museu Nacional in Rio de Janeiro. He is interested in the anthropology of politics and urban anthropology. Through an ethnographic approach, his research engages with questions of violence and inequality by focusing on the state, crime, illegality, drugs, and activism. For his doctoral thesis, he interrogates the social movements of favelas in Rio de Janeiro to understand the forms of action these movements take and the state policies that are directed towards marginal territories and populations. Jeferson holds a Masters Degree in sociology from the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro and an undergraduate degree in Social Sciences from the Universidade Federal do Paraná.
