I’m Isa, a graduate student at Wadham, taking the MSc in Latin American Studies. Since travelling across South America when I was 18, I have been fascinated by the region. I hold a degree in Politics and Spanish from the University of Bristol, where I developed my knowledge of transitional justice, democracy, and neo-extractivism across Latin America. During my year abroad, I was lucky enough to spend five months working in Bogotá, Colombia with the women's rights organisation La Ruta Pacífica de las Mujeres. Thanks to the incredible women of La Ruta (and sancocho, merengue, salsa and águila!) I have developed a particular interest in Colombia, which has been the focus of my previous research.
My undergraduate dissertation investigated gender disparities in conflict and the role of urban art and creative expression in women’s position in post-conflict Colombia. Through taking the MSc I am hoping to develop this further, perhaps through a comparative study of creative responses to violence across the region.
