In 1989, Felipe Portocarrero undertook a doctoral studies in Sociology at St Antony's College, University of Oxford. After finishing an appointment as Rector at Universidad del Pacífico last August, he was awarded two sabbatical years in order to prepare a book of essays on the role universities play in contemporary societies. His previous research focused on the economic history of elites and philanthropy in Latin America, including giving and volunteering, the third sector and corporate social responsibility.
