Emma Cohen

Emma Cohen is a Fellow in Human Sciences at Wadham College and Associate Professor within the Institute of Cognitive and Evolutionary Anthropology, University of Oxford.  She completed her PhD at Queen's University Belfast and has held positions at the Institute of Cognition and Culture (Queen’s) and the Research Group in Comparative Cognitive Anthropology at the Max Planck Institutes for Evolutionary Anthropology (Leipzig, Germany) and Psycholinguistics (Nijmegen, Netherlands).  Emma's principal research interests are in the psychology and evolution of cooperation and social bonding.  Her current work explores psychological links between collective movement and exercise, social bonding, cooperation and well-being. She has also researched the influence of accent and other social markers on children’s developing social preferences and the cognitive factors influencing the transmission of culture.
 
In addition to fieldwork travel in Brazil, she is a keen cycle tourer and still enjoys a good hike across an Irish bog.
