Roundtable: ‘From Realism to the New Weird in Latin American Contemporary Fiction’

Speakers:

Mollie Schofield is a Masters student at the Spanish sub-faculty of Modern Languages at the University of Oxford. Her research focuses on contemporary Spanish American women’s writing, with a particular interest in gender and feminist theory. Her current research project is exploring representations of the body in Argentine short fiction.

Lucía Leandro Hernández has a Masters degree in literary theory and comparative literature from the University of Barcelona, where she is currently a PhD student in the program of linguistic, literary and cultural studies. She researches fantastic literature and science fiction literature written by women in Central America between the late twentieth and the early twenty-first centuries. She has published in academic journals and collaborative books.

Discussant: Professor Ben Bolling

Ben Bolling is Professor of Spanish American Literature at the University of Oxford. He works on contemporary literature and film in Latin America, with a particular focus on Argentine poetry. He is currently writing a book on the cinematic adaptation of poetry in Argentina and has also recently published articles on crime fiction in Latin America. He is an editor of Journal of Latin American Cultural Studies and co-edited Latin American Cultural Studies: A Reader (Routledge, 2017, pbk 2019).
