Speaker: Dr. Jordan Brasher is an Assistant Professor of Geography at Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia, USA. He completed his PhD in Geography with a certificate in Africana Studies at the University of Tennessee and his primary research interests lie at the intersection of race, place, public memory, and heritage tourism. Trained as a cultural-historical geographer, he is particularly interested in the public memory of slavery in the Americas. Dr. Brasher is a Research Fellow with Tourism RESET – a multi-university and interdisciplinary research and outreach initiative that seeks to identify, study, and challenge patterns of social inequity in the tourism industry. He teaches courses in human geography and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) at Columbus State and his work has appeared in scholarly and popular outlets such as Social & Cultural Geography, Journal of Heritage Tourism, The Washington Post, and The Conversation (US).”
