Daniela Jara L. is a sociologist from the University of Chile and currently serves as the Director of the School of Sociology at the University of Valparaíso. She holds a PhD in Sociology from Goldsmiths College, University of London. Dr. Jara L. is currently engaged in three research projects: "Human Rights Defenders: Global Narratives and Local Practices of Justice in Contemporary Chile" (Fondecyt-funded); "50th Anniversary Commemorations of the Coup" (COES, with Modesto Gayo); and “Discourses on Human Rights by the Far Right in Social Media, Chile: Questioning Transitional Justice" (COES, with Carolina Aguilera et al.). Her research explores the intersections of social memory, cultural studies, transitional justice, and sociological theory. In the classroom, she teaches courses such as Sociology of Culture, Modern Theory, Social Theory, and Contemporary Problems. Dr. Jara L.'s work can be found in journals such as the International Journal of Transitional Justice, Memory Studies, A ContraCorriente, Continuum, and Revista Atenea.
