New article in Foreign Policy on Brazil-Venezuela relations

A new article on Brazil-Venezuela relations has just been published in Foreign Policy, written by Dr Felipe Krause, Course Director and Departmental Lecturer at the Latin American Centre.

The article discusses a strategic shift in Brazil's relationship with Venezuela under President Lula. Historically, has Brazil supported the Chávez-Maduro regime, but recent protests, economic collapse, and growing regional pressure have prompted Lula to adopt a more critical stance toward President Maduro. Lula's recent comments suggest a recalibration of Brazil's foreign policy, driven by domestic public opinion, economic concerns, and the region’s broader political changes. However, despite this shift, Brazil has yet to turn its evolving stance into decisive action.
