Former Colombian President at the LAC

Former President of Colombia, Mr Iván Duque Márquez, held an informal conversation on ‘The Current State of Latin America’ with LAC students, faculty members, and academic visitors on Wednesday, 25 January.  During the meeting, Mr Duque tackled a significant number of questions on a wide range of issues related to socio-economic problems, political prospects and international challenges for the region.  Originally trained as a lawyer, Mr Duque’s public career began as an advisor at the Colombian Ministry of Finance in 2000, from where he left for Washington, DC, to join the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), first as Colombia's Senior Advisor and then as Head of the Culture, Creativity and Solidarity Division. He was elected Senator in Colombia in 2014.  He was elected President of Colombia for the constitutional period 2018 to 2022.  He is currently a ‘Leadership Fellow’ at the Blavatnik School of Government in Oxford.
