Nelson Ruiz is a Lecturer at the Department of Politics and International Relations, at the University of Oxford and an Associate Member at Nuffield College. He is also an affiliate staff at the London School of Economics-ID and adjunct prof at Universidad del Rosario where he teaches over summers. Before, he was a post-doctoral researcher at ETH-Zurich Public Policy Group (Chair: Dominik Hangartner), a fellow at Harvard-IQSS, and part of the Visiting Scholars Program at NYU-Politics department. His research interests are in the political economy of development. He uses quasi-experimental designs, to study the role of politicians and political institutions in economic development. Lately ha has been studying the role of campaign finance contributions on distortions on public procurement. He usually teaches methods and stats courses for DPIR students at Oxford. He has papers forthcoming at the American Journal of Political Science and the Journal of Politics.
