During my undergraduate studies at the University of St Andrews, I undertook research on the colonial histories and legacies informing the implementation of 'sustainable development' in Central America, specifically in Guatemala and Costa Rica. My interest lies in exploring how the application of decolonial theory to the study of the region can positively contribute to academic and political discourse. While studying at postgraduate level in Oxford, I hope to deepen my understanding of international relations, human rights, and economies in Latin America. I aim to focus specifically on EU and Central American cooperation in addressing climate change and investigate how coloniality continues to inform the associated power dynamics. After Oxford, I hope to live and work in Central America on a long-term basis and potentially pursue further study. I am from Berlin, Germany, and have also lived in the United States, Guatemala, Scotland, and now England. I have experience working in conservation initiatives, the energy sector, and student representation.
