I am a current student on the MSc programme here at the LAC and a member of St Cross College. My interest in Latin America began before my undergraduate degree when I spent half a year living and working at schools in Chile. I was struck by the fascinating cultures and dramatic scenery which span the region and so, after a four-year hiatus studying Classics at the University of St Andrews, I decided to explore Latin America in a more official manner.
After recent political developments in Chile, my principal research interest is the relationship between natural resources and democracy. I aim to look at the resource curse and democratisation of resources across the region, as well as how countries with significant dependence on extractive industries react to environmentalist policy. I am very excited to be doing this at the LAC, with all the wide-ranging interests and opportunities it holds.
