Since March 2013, Dr Francesca Lessa has been undertaking a new project to study the so-called ‘Operation Condor trial,’ a pioneering prosecution unfolding in Federal Criminal Court 1 of the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

On 15th October 2013, the LAC held a roundtable discussion on the legacy of the Chilean military coup of 11th September 1973, which deposed the elected Socialist president Dr Salvador Allende and led to 17 years of military dictatorship by General Augusto Pinochet.
On 22nd October 2013, the LAC held a roundtable discussion on the economic and political effects of remittances to Latin America.

The Washington-based writer Marie Arana will talk about her new biography of Simón Bolívar, the wrenching wars of independence in Latin America, and the ways that revolution continues to this day.
On 4th October 2013, Dr Timothy Power (Director, Brazilian Studies Programme) visited the Institute of Latin America (ILA) of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow. Dr Power gave a lecture on Brazil’s street protests of 2013 to an audience of about 30 ILA faculty and students.
