Dilma Rousseff was elected President of Brazil in 2010, becoming the first woman to hold the office. She was reelected in 2014. Previously, she served as Minister of Energy and then Presidential Chief of Staff to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (2003-2010).

John Lynch, eminent historian of Latin America and former Director of the Institute of Latin American Studies in London, passed away last week, on 4th April. At the LAC’s request, Anthony McFarlane, Emeritus Professor at Warwick, writes a tribute to his work:
Hermínio Martins (1934-2015) was a fellow at the Latin American Centre, St Antony’s College, since his appointment in 1971 until his retirement in 2001. This festschrift commemorates Martins legacy, introducing his wide-ranging contributions to the social sciences.
