The Bodleian Latin American Centre Library

Library1

The LAC library at 1 Church Walk is our students' primary source of textbooks for day to day research. A lending library, it holds some 12,000 volumes covering politics, economics and history, together with journals, pamphlets and microfilms. The library's book stock is regularly updated under the direction of the LAC fellows, the University subject specialist and the librarians. Each student can borrow up to ten books for two weeks. Books purchased since 1991 are digitally catalogued on SOLO (Search Oxford Libraries Online).

The library has three reading rooms, including a seminar room, with workspace and computing facilities that give access to the University's digital catalogues and resources, as well as the Internet and word processing software. Over thirty journals are subscribed to, including popular titles like Proceso, Semana and Veja, and academic ones such as the Latin American weekly and regional reports, the Latin American Research Review and Quehacer.

The library's seminar room is used for both University lectures and the highly popular series of Latin American seminars and workshops that take place weekly throughout term. These seminars cover a wide range of current topics and are given by leading experts in the field from Oxford and around the world.

The library is both a focus of scholarship and a meeting place for students studying the subject area.

The library is open from 9.00 am - 1.00 pm and from 2.00 pm - 5.00 pm, Monday to Friday. It is part of the Bodleian Library and is run by Frank Egerton (Librarian and Subject Consultant); Rebeca Otazua (Senior Library Assistant) and Samantha Truman (Assistant Librarian).
