Inequality and Development in Latin America Conference

Rosemary Thorp

On 4 and 5 June, the Latin American Centre celebrated the conference "Inequality and Development in Latin America: Celebrating Rosemary Thorp's Contribution to Historical Political Economy".  The conference brought together researchers from Europe, Latin America and the United States who work on the history of Latin America or inequality and development more generally. Many have been Rosemary Thorp's students while others have collaborated closely with her in the past.  The conference explored the historical roots of inequality in Latin America (the most unequal region of the world) and Peru in particular from a multidisciplinary perspective.  We also had spirited discussions on the roots of the recent reduction of inequality and its future sustainability.  Proceedings of the conference will be published in a special webpage in upcoming months.
