End fo the year party 2013
Another academic year has come to an end at the Latin American Centre on 21 June 2013.
This year we had the rare opportunity of enjoying our end of the year party in the garden and without rain. The students brought in a sound system and playlists of Latin music and we even did some salsa dancing. This complemented the delicious food and plentiful drink that Elvira Ryan always puts together and that make our end of the year fiesta a lot of fun.
We thanked those at St Antony's College, our Bodleian library staff, and our own staff for all they do for us on a daily basis. We said good-bye to those who have moved on (David Robinson, Joe Foweraker) and welcomed our new member of staff (Gilberto Estrada Harris), and we gave out academic awards to our students.
This year we recognized the following students for receiving a distinction in their course or on their final thesis, extended essay, or dissertation. For the MSc we recognized Alejandro Espinosa and Juan Gil. For the MPhil, we recognized Benjamin Ahnert, Alice Baumgartner, Amelia Josephson, and Katherine Shattuck.
Thanks to the generosity of our alumnus Dr Andrew Crawley, we were able to provide three Crawley Prizes -- Blackwell's Books Gift Certificates -- one for the best MSc extended essay and two for the best MPhil theses. The MSc recipient of the Crawley Prize was Juan Gil. The Exam Board could not decide between two of the MPhil theses so both Alice Baumgartner and Katherine Shattuck received Crawley Prizes.
Congratulations to these students and all the others who put in so much work and wrote very fine exams and final projects. Thank you also to their supervisors for their work during this year.
